Vrsac is situated 85 km north-east of Belgrade, on the edge of the Pannonian plain, at the foot of the Vršac mountains, only 14 km away from the Romanian border. The town lies on the international road Belgrade-Timisoara and one can arrive from the capital in an hour by car. Vatin, the most frequent road border crossing with Romania, is only a ten-minute drive away. Road distance from Vrsac to Novi Sad is 145 km.
Both culturally and geographically, Vrsac lies at a crossroads between north and south, east and west. Its gates have always been open to travelers and settlers alike, as well as those seeking sanctuary. People who brought with them their own languages and cultures, customs and legends that the town has absorbed for all time, creating an indestructible force within itself. Shrouded in winds and with unique spiritual creative energy, Vrsac was sometimes at the centre of great events where the destinies of nations were being decided, but more often it was on the periphery, enthralled with itself and its own life.
